As seen on HGTV's "Tiny house big living"

The tiny house dream began in November 2014. Finn had just turned one and Piper was due in July 2015. Zac and I were both working full-time to pay for a house we hardly got to enjoy. We kept thinking, "there has to be a better way." I have a love-hate relationship with Netflix. I watched TINY probably ten times with various people. Looking back, I think I was testing the waters to see their reactions. Darn you, Netflix.

We had debated listing our house but the market was so high that even downsizing wasn't going to save any money. Former NAVY Seal Commander Rorke Denver once said, "Make bold corrections. If you only make little corrections, you’ll get little results. Spin the dials on a rifle until you get close to your target, and then you can make minor adjustments." We went for a bold correction.

We bought tickets to Tumbleweed's Tiny House Workshop  scheduled for March 2015 and listed the house the day before we left. We prayed that if this was the path we were to take, the house would sell. We had two offers before we left the workshop. Shortly thereafter I applied for HGTV's "Tiny House Big Living." I totally forgot about it until August when I got a call asking us to do a Skype interview. The rest is history. We had five film days between September and November and our episode of the show aired April 25, 2016 revealing the finished product

Two days after we completed building the house and finished filming, we towed the house to Nevada where Zac had accepted a new job. We lived in the tiny house just shy of a year when we purchased a home in Minden, NV. Our next home was just over 1,000 square feet and while living there we were thrilled to welcome our third baby on June 30th, 2017. We kept the tiny house for another year and enjoyed hosting guests from all over the world via Airbnb. Sadly, our area passed a code which no longer allowed short term rentals, so we made the hard decision to sell our tiny house. That sale gave us the ability to buy a 3-bedroom home for our growing family.

Our tiny living adventure was a whirlwind, but it shaped many of our habits and attitudes toward material possessions and helped us make a cross-country move that I don't think we would have been brave enough to do if we hadn't embraced tiny living. Tiny living isn’t for the faint of heart, but we loved it while our kids were tiny!

We can't say enough about Josh and Jerry Battis. They had no idea how involved they would be in this project when they first signed on but when the timeline for completion was unexpectedly shortened, they stepped up and finished it and we couldn't be happier with the final product.

Lovely Lettering by Jo

A house just isn't a home without artwork, but where do you put art in a tiny house? I am so thankful for my fiend Jo who took my vague idea and turned it into our home's centerpiece. Jo is not currently selling on Etsy.
